A pause is part of the run.
We took the thin line. Walked the steep bit. Sat on a warm rock and split the last of a slightly crushed oat bar. Down below, the day was carrying on without us. Up here, the only decision was whether to stay another minute.
There is a kind of progress that never appears in a training log. Learning the feel of the wind before you see the clouds. Knowing when to put the shell on. Realising the person behind you has gone quiet, and easing up until the conversation comes back.
The way back felt different.
Same stones, other side. We stopped chasing the path and let it arrive. Short steps through the loose ground, a stretch of easy running under the trees, the gate again. By then the town had fully woken up.
The run was longer than planned. Slower, too. Nothing remarkable to upload. But all afternoon, a little of that ridgeline stayed with us. Sometimes that is what the equipment is for: helping you stay out a little longer, until the day gives you something you did not go looking for.
